For several reasons I have decided to end this blog. Thanks for your interest over the last few months. (February 5, 2012)

This picture (click to enlarge) is based on the portrait of James Madison that appears on the $5,000 bill; something few of us have ever seen.
In 1969 all denominations over $100 were removed from circulation in a bold move by the government to make life difficult for money launderers, drug kingpins, and organized crime in general.
It was a brilliant tactic. The criminals were stopped in their tracks and haven’t bothered us since. Paralyzed by the sheer inconvenience of it all, many of them have been forced to turn to desperate measures like electronic banking.
